Hi. This blog is about people who cook at home in and around Brattleboro, a town in southeastern Vermont. I started it because I'm an eater and a writer, and also because I'm terribly nosy. I’ve followed numerous food blogs for years, but never felt the desire to write about my own cooking, which is ambitious and creative in theory, but not so much in real life.

I started thinking about all the good food I’ve eaten in this town, and all the nice, interesting people who’ve cooked it. And how I’d really like to ask them personal questions about their families and their jobs and their love lives, but have no wish to alienate them and have them cross to the other side of the street when they see me coming.

So why not ask them about food? Knowing what a person likes to cook and eat at home says a lot about them, don’t you think? Why they like to cook? Who taught them? What’s their favorite meal? The guilty pleasure they curl up on the couch with at the end of the day? You get the idea.

Brattleboro is a wonderful place to cook and eat, even when there is two feet of snow on the ground! My goal is to, over time, chronicle a diverse group of people cooking a wide variety of dishes. Kind of a portrait of a town through food.
